Spinal Decompression in Vernon

Gentle Support for Disc and Nerve-Related Concerns
If neck or low back discomfort is nagging you during the day and interrupting your sleep, non-surgical spinal decompression may be one option your chiropractor discusses with you. Under the guidance of Dr. Keegan Johnston and Dr. Michelle Poirier, we use a measured approach that aims to gently stretch and relax the spine, which may help reduce pressure on irritated areas. At Lakeside Align Chiropractic, we focus on a thoughtful evaluation, conservative settings, and clear education so you understand what this therapy involves.

How Spinal Decompression Works Here
Spinal decompression uses a specialized table to gently stretch and relax the spine, which may help reduce pressure within the discs for some people. We set the table for the area being focused on—neck or lower back—and always begin at a low setting. The doctor gradually adjusts tension over time based on your comfort and response. Sessions typically last about 15-30 minutes and are done after your chiropractic adjustment. Experiences vary by person.
Is This Therapy Right for You?
Dr. Keegan and Dr. Michelle carefully evaluate who may benefit, based on your history, examination, and sometimes additional assessments such as MyoVision scans. Imaging may be recommended when clinically appropriate and is not routine. Spinal decompression may be considered for certain disc and nerve-related concerns, particularly in more longstanding cases, when it is clinically appropriate. It isn’t suitable for every patient and is commonly not advised for chronic headache sufferers. Situations where spinal decompression may be considered include:
- Herniated or bulging discs, as assessed by your healthcare team
- Sciatic-type symptoms and radiating leg discomfort
- Nerve-related numbness or tingling, as part of a broader care plan
- Discomfort associated with degenerative disc changes
Thoughtful Care with Regular Check-Ins
Our posture-centred, Chiropractic BioPhysics®-influenced approach considers many factors related to how and where you feel discomfort. This approach may include traction and targeted chiropractic adjustments with the aim of supporting alignment, awareness and function. Many Vernon patients report feeling different after sessions, while more complex situations may change gradually between visits. Each person’s experience is unique and results cannot be guaranteed.
